Going Bald for Better Vision
Story
13th of May - add it to your calendar as I will be shaving my hair off!
Why? I’m fundraising to help people who are blind or have poor vision to give them the independence and freedom that most of us take for granted every day.
As some of you may be aware, I have an eye condition which mostly affects my eye sight at night and impacts on my peripheral vision. This condition is called Rentinitis Pigmentosa which I was born with. I’m fortunate that my eye sight during the day is relatively good and I am still able to get by but in the evenings when it gets darker, I suddenly loose my independence which makes me feel disadvantaged at times. Being able to see when I was younger was definitely something I took for granted and now it's something I treasure.
My eye condition is part of a syndrome called Ushers which means I also have a hearing loss. I wear hearing aids every day. Could you imagine living a silent life in the darkness? - It would be incredibly challenging.
So I want to help the many children and adults out there that Vision Australia strives to support on a daily basis. Vision Australia are hugely reliant upon support from the public. Without it they would not be able to continue with the incredible work they do to provide essential services to help people who are blind or have low vision get an education, a job and have a high quality of life.
As most of you know, I am very community minded and always looking out for other people so I've decided that I'll not only donate the money raised to Vision Australia, but MY GORGEOUS LOCKS will be donated to the Children's Charity - Variety Australia for children who have lost their hair to cancer or alopecia.
Any donation that you can make whether it be large or small will be appreciated :)
Thanks in advance for your support!
P.S If we reach the target $5000 I promised Jenna she can clean shave my head bald and shiny- how crazy!
